Hi! I’m Joe Dyton, author of the Dyton’s Word Blog. I’ve been a professional writer since 1999. I started freelance writing as a side hustle in 2008 and made the leap to full-time freelancing in 2016.
I wanted to start this blog to help people who are interested in becoming a freelance writer or are in the early stages of their freelance career and want to build their on their business.
Initially, I was going to make this blog about my current freelance writing experiences. Former colleagues, friends and family would ask me, “How’s freelance going?” Not wanting to bore them with the details, my response would be some variation of “Busy”, “Steady”, or “It’s coming along.” The blog would expand on those responses for anyone who was actually interested in how my freelance writing business was going.
I decided to change course because I didn’t think a running diary of my freelance exploits would be that interesting to anyone outside of my orbit. So instead, Dyton’s Words will focus on freelance writing as a whole. I’ll share tips on finding clients, how to figure out your area of expertise, managing your freelance writing business and more. I’ll also share articles I that I think will be helpful to my audience. Dyton’s Words will still include stories about what I’m dealing with as freelance writer, but that will be a part of what this blog is about rather than the main attraction.
Going forward, I hope to add question and answer sessions with successful freelance writers to this blog. One of the things I’ve learned since I became a freelance writer is there are many paths to success in this industry. I want to share as many people’s paths as possible.
Thanks for taking the time to read this short introduction to Dyton’s Words! I look forward to taking this journey with you.
Until then,
Joe
